Meet Neil.
Neil Torbenson was a vibrant, athletic fourteen-year-old who loved basketball and fishing. In October 2021, his journey took an unexpected turn when he faced serious health challenges that eventually led to a diagnosis of brain cancer. Despite the long months of hospital stays, emergency treatments, and numerous setbacks, Neil's spirit remained resilient. He endured 37 rounds of proton beam radiation, and by August 2022, he was able to enjoy a full year free of cancer. One of the highlights was an unforgettable trip to Alaska, granted through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, where Neil could momentarily escape his reality and just be a kid.
In August 2023, Neil's family received the difficult news that the cancer had returned. Yet, even as he faced new rounds of treatment and the uncertainty that came with them, Neil approached every step with courage and hope. He inspired everyone around him with his strength and his determination to continue the fight.
On September 9, 2024, Neil's journey came to a close as he entered the loving arms of Jesus. His strength and spirit left a profound impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him or hearing his story. The Racca Cancer Foundation 2024 primary event served as a celebration of Neil's incredible life—honoring his love of life, his boundless courage, and the way he inspired all of us to cherish every moment. Neil's story continues to remind us of the importance of hope, community, and the fight against cancer.
